Things We’re Thankful For ⚠️

As the holiday season approaches I find myself reflecting on all the things I’m truly grateful for.

It’s a time for introspection and appreciation and for me it’s a chance to acknowledge the incredible community that surrounds the world of WordPress.

This year I had the privilege of attending WordCamp US and it was a truly humbling experience.

It’s a reminder of just how vibrant and supportive this community is.

We all come together to share our knowledge collaborate on projects and celebrate the power of open-source software.

The WordPress Community: A Force of Goodness

The camaraderie and sense of shared purpose at WordCamp was truly inspiring.

We gathered after a long period of virtual interaction and it was like reuniting with old friends.

The energy was electric and it’s no wonder that the community is consistently ranked as one of the most welcoming and collaborative in the tech world.

A Unique Approach to WordCamp Swag

This year we decided to do something different with our Pressable booth.

Instead of offering the usual stack of t-shirts and keychains we wanted to do something more meaningful.

We introduced Pressabills which allowed attendees to choose how much they’d like to contribute to a selection of incredible organizations.

It was a fantastic way to give back and support causes that are close to our hearts.

The Organizations We Supported

The generosity of the WordPress community truly shone through and we were delighted to support these organizations:

1. Big Orange Heart: Mental Health for Remote Workers

I have to say Big Orange Heart was a clear favorite.

It was the organization most people chose to support and I can’t say I’m surprised.

Remote work has become the norm for many of us and it can be a lonely and isolating experience.

It’s heartwarming to see an organization dedicated to promoting mental health and providing support specifically to remote workers.

Big Orange Heart offers everything from coaching and mentoring to workshops and community-based resources.

Their mission is crucial and we were honored to help them reach a wider audience at WordCamp.

2. Carbon 180: Fighting Climate Change Through Carbon Removal

We were thrilled to see Carbon 180 gain support from the WordPress community.

They’re tackling climate change with a direct approach by actively removing carbon from our atmosphere.

Their dedication to scientific research and policy advocacy is truly inspiring.

Carbon 180 is a shining example of how technology and innovation can be used to address our planet’s most pressing issues.

3. freeCodeCamp: Empowering the Next Generation of Coders

freeCodeCamp is a truly remarkable organization that’s democratizing access to education.

They’ve created a wealth of free resources including videos articles and interactive coding lessons to help anyone learn how to code.

They’ve helped thousands of individuals land jobs in the tech industry and their commitment to inclusivity is commendable.

It’s inspiring to witness their dedication to bridging the digital divide and empowering people from all backgrounds to succeed in the tech world.

4. The WordPress Foundation: Ensuring the Future of Open Source

The WordPress Foundation is the backbone of the open-source community.

They ensure that WordPress remains free stable and continues to improve.

Their work is crucial for maintaining the platform’s accessibility and making it available to everyone.

They also support educational initiatives to help more people learn how to use WordPress fostering a new generation of creators and developers.

Looking Ahead: A Bright Future for WordPress

As we reflect on the year that’s passed we can’t help but be optimistic about the future of WordPress.

WordCamp US was a testament to the community’s innovation and creativity and we’re excited to see what’s on the horizon.

The Gutenberg editor is constantly evolving and we’re particularly impressed with the new features and capabilities.

Full Site Editing is a must for website builders allowing for greater flexibility and control over the design and functionality of their sites.

The future of WordPress looks bright and I can’t wait to see what the community creates next.
