My Top 5 Favorite WordPress Theme Builders

🔥 Want to create a website that’s as unique as your personality? Check out these amazing WordPress theme builders!

Over the years I’ve tested a whole bunch of theme builders but these five consistently stand out from the crowd.

1. Divi

Divi by Elegant Themes is a powerhouse of a theme builder.

It’s known for its vast array of customization options making it incredibly versatile.

You can fine-tune everything from page headers and footers to entire website templates.

Divi’s got a library of pre-designed layouts and modules that make drag-and-drop customization a breeze even for beginners.

Plus it supports over 30 languages making it a global favorite.

Now let’s talk about Divi’s latest updates.

They’ve introduced single and archive templates simplifying your workflow.

They’ve also added a ton of full-site template kits helping you build beautiful and functional sites in a flash.

Divi even has a thriving marketplace filled with compatible third-party extensions giving you access to a vast library of tools to create truly unique and powerful websites.

But like any tool this powerful Divi has its downsides.

The sheer number of customization options can feel overwhelming for new users.

If you’re a complete beginner you might find yourself lost in the sea of possibilities.

Another thing to keep in mind is that deleting Divi isn’t as simple as disabling a plugin.

It has a tendency to leave behind shortcodes in your content which you’ll need to manually clean up.

2. Elementor

Elementor started as a popular page builder but it’s evolved into a formidable theme builder too.

The free version gives you access to the page builder but to unlock the full power of theme building you’ll need to upgrade to Elementor Pro for $49.

Elementor Pro offers a dazzling array of design elements from forms and call-to-action boxes to more advanced features.

Its advanced visual editor empowers you to create dynamic fully customizable content.

You can even build pop-ups for your site to capture visitor emails or encourage online shoppers to complete their purchases.

One of the best features of Elementor is its streamlined template management system.

All your templates are accessible from one user-friendly interface.

It also allows you to use conditional targeting on your pages making your website even more powerful and versatile.

Like Divi Elementor’s exceptional customizability can be a bit daunting for beginners.

If you’re not familiar with theme builders you might want to ease into it.

The sheer number of third-party plugins available for Elementor can be overwhelming as well.

And let’s talk about the cost.

The $50 annual fee only covers one website so if you’re working on multiple projects those costs can add up quickly.

However they do offer a generous unlimited plan for $200 a year giving you access to 1000 websites.

3. Thrive

Thrive is a lifesaver for those who aren’t comfortable with coding.

It’s designed to make website customization accessible to everyone.

It features a site wizard and a simplified design that makes editing any page element a breeze.

It also offers a drag-and-drop editor for easy template management.

Thrive comes bundled with a companion theme called Shapeshift.

This theme boasts a wealth of page templates from blog indexes and homepages to 404 pages.

Its sleek modern design gives your pages a polished look that elevates the visitor experience.

Thrive also offers global colors for complete brand consistency and a form element that integrates seamlessly with your email marketing.

The plugin’s simple closed system is perfect for those who want a hassle-free theme builder that just works.

But Thrive has its limitations.

It only works with Shapeshift meaning you can’t explore the vast library of other WordPress themes.

While you can technically recreate your favorite theme using Thrive’s customization options it can be tedious and may result in a subpar website.

Shapeshift is designed for building new websites so incorporating existing functionality from a previously established site can be tricky.

Thrive is also geared towards content creators and publishers like bloggers and business owners.

If you’re a designer building websites for clients you might find Thrive’s functionality limited.

4. Genesis

Genesis is a powerful framework with a plethora of customization options.

Unlike many template builder frameworks Genesis features an options bar that lets you customize backend elements like adding third-party RSS feeds comments trackbacks and archives.

Genesis prioritizes security which is essential in today’s digital world.

They’ve made significant investments in security and even hired consultants to ensure their framework meets the highest standards.

Genesis also offers a wide selection of themes giving you ultimate customizability.

Genesis has a unique one-click theme setup feature that lets you install demo content in seconds.

You can create custom image or text-based headers to showcase your client’s branding.

And Genesis sites are compatible with a wide range of widgets giving your clients the flexibility they need.

However while Genesis excels at simple customization it can fall short when it comes to advanced editing.

You might need to delve into the base code to modify certain page elements which can be a challenge for non-coders.

These elements include font colors background colors font sizes and more.

Genesis also might include features you don’t need or that overlap with other tools you already use.

For instance it comes with an SEO guidance system which might be redundant if you already have established SEO plugins.

5. WP Bakery (formerly Visual Composer)

WP Bakery formerly known as Visual Composer is a long-standing favorite in the WordPress world.

It was once the most popular drag-and-drop page builder powering over 2 million websites at its peak.

Since its rebranding WP Bakery has been enhanced with even more functionality and support.

The plugin has a dedicated support team and is now multilingual.

Its intuitive drag-and-drop editor and grid design templates make it easy to create custom pages with personalized front- and backend elements.

One of the biggest advantages of WP Bakery is its 100% mobile compatibility.

With over half of web traffic now coming from mobile devices it’s crucial for websites to be mobile-friendly.

And at $64 per year it’s relatively affordable making it accessible to most clients.

However switching theme builders after using WP Bakery can be a headache.

You’ll essentially have to rebuild your website from scratch if you want to use a different plugin.

You also might not be able to edit content from other plugins using the WP Bakery platform.

While WP Bakery isn’t free the $16 annual license cost is a bargain compared to most domain name licenses.

But if you’re looking for a completely free option WP Bakery isn’t the right choice.
