A Detailed Look Into Contabo Dedicated Servers Performance ⚠️

The recent introduction of our new 16-core and 32-core dedicated servers powered by the AMD EPYC 7282 CPUs has sparked a lot of conversation.

Many of you are curious about why we opted for AMD over Intel and why we chose the EPYC 7282 specifically instead of for example the popular Ryzen series.

The answer in a nutshell boils down to the EPYC 7282’s remarkable price/performance ratio which in my expert opinion surpasses all other CPUs on the market both Intel and AMD.

This commitment to providing unbeatable value is at the heart of Contabo’s mission and we’re proud to deliver on that promise.

The Power of EPYC: Why We Ditched Intel for AMD

You might be wondering why we didn’t go for even more powerful CPUs.

We certainly considered it but the cost associated with a more expensive CPU coupled with its increased power consumption would have pushed the monthly price of such a server well over €700. We wanted to keep the servers accessible to a broader range of users without compromising performance.

A Benchmarking Journey: The AMD EPYC 7282’s Performance Advantage

Comparing our new flagship servers to the previous generation is truly eye-opening.

While the old flagships boasted 10 and 20 cores running at 2.2 GHz the new models pack 16 and 32 cores respectively clocked at 2.8 GHz.

The raw numbers tell only part of the story.

The AMD EPYC 7282’s modern design unlocks significantly more computing power than the older Intel CPUs exceeding expectations based on mere specifications.

At Contabo we use the widely recognized Linux Kernel Compile Benchmark (pts/build-linux-kernel) to measure server performance.

This benchmark reveals how many times a server can compile a Linux kernel within a given timeframe.

It’s a valuable tool but it’s crucial to remember that the previous generation servers were significantly cheaper.

The true test lies in comparing the computing power delivered per Euro spent not just raw computing power in isolation.

This is where the EPYC 7282 shines.

It delivers incredible value for money making it a clear favorite among our customers.

Future Directions: Shaping the Future of Dedicated Servers

I’m eager to hear your thoughts on the future of Contabo’s dedicated server offerings.

Should we explore even more powerful models? Perhaps there’s a demand for smaller more affordable servers with say fewer than 16 cores? I’m open to your suggestions and insights.

Remember Contabo is committed to delivering the best possible value in the world of dedicated servers.

We constantly strive to enhance our offerings and your input is invaluable in guiding our future decisions.
