Tiled Gallery Block ⚠️

I was just messing around with my website the other day and stumbled upon this really cool new block called the Tiled Gallery.

It’s part of the Jetpack Blocks suite and it’s super easy to use even for someone like me who’s not exactly a coding whiz.

Tiled Gallery: A New Way to Display Images

The Tiled Gallery lets you show off your images in a variety of styles.

You can go with a classic tiled mosaic a circular grid square tiles or even columns.

And if you want to get fancy you can also create a slideshow! It’s super versatile.

Getting Started with Tiled Gallery

The best part is that the Tiled Gallery block is available on all Jetpack-connected sites.

You don’t need to pay extra for it it’s already included.

The block is activated by default so you can start using it right away.

You can even keep using the Tiled Gallery block even if you decide to disable the Tiled Galleries feature in the Modules Page.

It’s a really nice flexible feature.

Now if you’re using the Classic Editor plugin you’ll need to switch back to the Block Editor to use the Tiled Gallery block.

You can do this by either deactivating the Classic Editor plugin or switching to the Block Editor directly from the Classic Editor screen.

Customizing Your Gallery

Once you’re in the Block Editor creating a gallery is a breeze.

Just click on the “+” icon to add a new block and search for “Tiled Gallery”. You can then drag and drop your images into the block.

Easy peasy!

But the fun part is customizing the gallery.

You can change the gallery type link behavior and even add captions using the Styles section in the Block sidebar.

If you can’t find the Tiled Gallery options you can also try refreshing your browser logging out and back in again or switching to a different theme.

If that doesn’t work you can contact Jetpack support for help.

Slideshow Feature

One thing I really like is the Slideshow option.

You can turn your images into a beautiful dynamic slideshow with just a few clicks.

This is a great way to add some visual interest to your posts and pages.

Classic Editor Compatibility

If you’re still stuck on the Classic Editor you can still use Tiled Galleries.

Just follow the guide on using Tiled Galleries with the Classic Editor.

It’s a bit different than using the Block Editor but it’s still pretty straightforward.

Tiled Gallery & Content Width

The Tiled Gallery block is designed to fill the content width of your theme.

You can adjust the content width by adding some code to your theme’s functions.php file.

But I’ll be honest I’m not super comfortable editing theme files so I usually just use the Custom Content Width plugin to do this.

If your theme doesn’t define a content width the Tiled Gallery will default to 500px wide.

But if you want to use a different width you can use the tiled_gallery_content_width filter.

This lets you specify a different content width for Tiled Galleries only.

Missing Captions?

One thing that I haven’t seen yet is support for captions in the Tiled Gallery block.

You can’t add captions per image or for the whole block yet.

But there’s a workaround.

You can use the Classic block to add a Tiled Gallery and then add captions to each image.

Just make sure to check out the guide on using Tiled Galleries with the Classic Editor for more details.

Tiled Gallery: My Personal Thoughts

Overall I’m really impressed with the Tiled Gallery block.

It’s a simple yet powerful tool that lets you add beautiful and engaging galleries to your website without any coding knowledge.

It’s a great way to showcase your images and make your website more visually appealing.

It’s clear that Jetpack is really investing in the Block Editor and creating a robust set of tools for website owners like myself. I can’t wait to see what new features they come up with next!
